Vision of the School Library Media Center
To foster a love of independent reading for knowledge, enlightenment, and growth by utilizing diverse text in a multitude of forms and collaborating with the staff to create engaging and innovative learning experiences that provide students with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.
As I reflect back on all I learned during my journey to achieve my master’s in library science, I have formulated a vision of what I would like to achieve in my role as a school librarian. Entering a school for the first time provides opportune moments to establish positive relationships with building administration and teachers that must continue throughout the year. Joining teachers in the lounge, initiating and participating in team-building activities such as a secret snowman, slipping into team meetings at least once a nine weeks, and promptly responding to teacher request will assist in building a relationship which can encourage others to join. Each moment is a unique opportunity to ensure I am providing the services needed to align with building goals, accent the teacher’s curriculum, and inspire students to seek knowledge. So much can be achieved beyond the walls of the library! I envision assisting in the planning of staff development and rolling my library on wheels into classrooms to establish relationships with the students. Through integrating myself into the delivery of curriculum I can assist in tailoring lessons that utilize technology and print to enrich students’ acquisition of the skills needed to show mastery of the state standards. Establishing these relationships with all stakeholders enables me to collaborate with teachers and administrators to design engaging lessons that equip students with the 21st-century skills essential in the future they create.
